The CSO today released the Irish Babies’ Names 2011 report with Jack and Emily named as taking the top positions. Jack retains the top position again in 2011, a position that it has held since 2007. While Emily came second place in 2010, it moved up one place to the top position for 2011.
Jack, James, Sean, Daniel and Conor were the top five for 2011 and have been since 2007. Four of these five names have been in the top five since 1998 with only Daniel missing from the group. The top girls' names has seen a bit more variance. The name Sarah had been in the top five since 1998 but moved down to sixth place in 2011. 2011 is the first time Lily has appeared in the top five. The top five girls' names for 2011 are Emily, Sophie, Emma, Grace, and Lily.
New entries for boys into the top 100 were: Mason, Tommy, Zach and Donnacha and one entry Lexi into the top 100 for girls. Michaela proved popular rising 86 places.
The results show a wider variety of girls' names than boys' names with over a thousand more girls's names registered than boys.
