The Coalition of Irish Immigration Centers (CIIC) has issued a set of guidelines for J1 students that are planning to travel to the US and look for work for the summer months.
The CIIC say that "Though this is an exciting and fun experience, it is also important to be prepared and aware of the responsibilities you have as a traveler"
They provide guidelines on preparation for arrival, what you do on arrival, and advice on looking for accommodation and jobs. They also give advice on staying safe and provide a list of useful contacts and links to finding your local Irish center.
In their guidelines, they advice to bring sufficient funds and make sure to participate in the orientation process, and also to registered with SEVIS and apply for your Social Security card. The CIIC also warn about rental scams and provide relevant information on US law enforcment.
