Beara Irish Brewing Co. is a brewery in planning in Portsmouth, New Hampshire. USA. Set up by husband and wife team Michael and Louise Potorti, Beara Irish Brewing Co takes its name from Louise's home town. Louise is from Bere Island which is off the Beara peninsula in Co. Cork. They aim to aim to produce fine craft brews with genuine imported Irish Barley Malt.
Michael is from New York, USA and they decided to start brewing genuine Irish Barley malt as they felt that the current offerings of Irish beer in the US lacks character. Every time they returned to Ireland and Louise's home, they were incredibly impressed by the quality and taste of of local products, especially grain products so this sparked the idea to brew beer with a pure Irish barley base - they use pure Irish 2-row Barley malt as the base for our brews.
They are doing a Kickstarter in early July to raise funds for equipment - keep tuned as they will be looking for support to expand their facilities so they can brew more.
They have already won an award for our Honey Brown Ale! So far they have found a lot of support for the brewery - since they set up the website and social media pages a couple of weeks ago, they have already over 400 followers on Twitter.
As Louise is an Irish expat, we asked her a few questions about her experiences.
