The International Experience Canada (IEC) visa programme will open next week with a record number 10,700 places being made available for 2014, a significant increase on the the 6,350 available in 2013.
The Canadian govenment today announced that they signed an amendment to the youth mobility agreement between Canada and Ireland. The IEC programme provides the opportunity for Irish citizens between the ages of 18 and 35 to travel and work in Canada with a similatr programme for Canadians to work in Ireland.
Two new categories have been added to better meet the need of participants and prospective employers. Of the 10,700 places, 2,500 will go to Young Professionals, 500 are to go for International Coop (Internship), and 7,700 are for Working Holiday visas.
The Young Professionals category is for people with a prearranged job in their chosen career. The Internation Coop category is for full-time students who have arranged a work placement or internship as part of their academic course.
The opening date for Young Professionals and International Coop (Internship) categories is on March 11, 2014. The opening date for the first round in the Working Holiday category is on March 13, 2014. There will be a further Round 2 that will be announced later.
'Young Canadian and Irish citizens can participate in IEC once for up to 24 months, in either the Working Holiday or the Young Professional categories. Some young people may also be eligible for an additional one-time participation for up to 12 months under the International Co-op category.'
