The New York and Washington D.C. St. Patrick’s Day festivities will be broadcast to an international TV audience this coming Thursday, March 27th at 9.00pm. The film crew from IRISH TV travelled across the Atlantic to capture the vibrant atmosphere and ambience from the St. Patrick’s Day parades in the USA.
In their special St. Patrick’s Day programme, Irish TV presenter Malachi Cush reports from the festivities in New York City and Washington D.C. The special St. Patrick’s Day programme will be broadcast on SKY TV channel 191/Freesat 400 and online at IRISHTV.ie this coming Thursday, March 27th, at 9.00pm.
Malachi joined An Taoiseach, Enda Kenny on his annual trip to the United States to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day in New York and Washington D.C. The programme features exclusive coverage of An Taoiseach’s visit to the White House and his meeting with President Obama and also his meetings with Vice President Joe Biden and a reception at Capitol Hill.
Irish TV presenter Malachi Cush said it was fantastic to travel with An Taoiseach to celebrate the St. Patrick’s Day festivities in the US. “It was a real privilege to travel alongside An Taoiseach, Enda Kenny and experience the St. Patrick’s Day celebrations in New York and Washington D.C. It was an incredible experience to visit the White House and Capitol Hill and see how Ireland is held in such high esteem overseas, I think viewers will really enjoy our journey as we celebrate what it means to be Irish,” he said.
The special USA programme also features exclusive interviews with the organisers and participants involved in the parades, including Hilary Beirne, Executive Secretary of the NYC St Patrick's Day parade and Cardinal Timothy M. Dolan, Archbishop of New York. Speaking to Irish TV, Hilary Beirne stated that it was a wonderful opportunity to share New York’s Irish heritage with the world. “We are thrilled that IRISHTV are covering the New York St. Patrick’s Day parade. The New York parade is a celebration of Irish pride for Irish Americans. It represents our faith, heritage and culture and it is wonderful that Irish TV will be broadcasting the New York parade to a global TV audience,” commented Beirne.
