The top five boys’ names are Jack, James, Daniel, Conor and Sean and have the top five names since 2007 with the order changing slightly over the years. Emily, Emma, Sophie, Ella, Amelia are the top five girls' names for 2013. There were a few first time entries in the top 100 names: Kai and Kayden for boys, and Sadie, Sienna, Fiadh and Poppy for girls.
Comparing to 1963, the top name for a boy was John and the top name for a girl was Mary with the count over 5 times that of the most popular names today. The statistics also show that the range of names was not as varied as it is today. There were 1,109 girls’ names and 678 boys’ names registered in 1963 versus 4,643 girls’ names and 3,628 boys’ names in 2013.
