Ronan and Emma Lally from Clara in County Offaly were extremely surprised when they saw a cat nursing their three duckling alongside her own newlyborn kittens. They said the ducklings went missing but then found them being breastfed by the cat.
They then took videos of the cat, kittens and duck and the relationship that ensued between them. One video, which now reaches over 1.5 million views on their own YouTube site, shows the cat breastfeeding the ducklings and sharing the space with her own kittens.
The second video, also reaching 1.5 million views, shows the cat on Day 6 still treating the ducklings like her own. The ducklings are getting a lot more adventurous and independent and mommy cat is having a hard time keeping them all close by.
It is assumed that the cat's mothering hormones must have overcome her natural predator instincts so that she became protective and nurturing towards the ducklings.
