To celebrate the unveiling of the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus and introducing the first Apple watchm, U2 performed the first track "The Miracle (of Joey Ramone)" from their new album “Songs of Innocence”.
Apple Chief Executive Tim Cook and Bono then surprised everyone by announcing that the new album is available for free on the iTunes Stores through to October 13th, as a gift from Apple.
The new album is available to over iTunes customer in 119 countries.
Bono posted a letter on the U2 website entitled 'Remember Us?'. In it, he says " People who haven’t heard our music, or weren’t remotely interested, might play us for the first time because we’re in their library.... And for the people out there who have no interest in checking us out, look at it this way… the blood, sweat and tears of some Irish guys are in your junk mail."
He also went on to say that the band will be collaborating with Apple on some cool stuff over the next couple of years.
