The Irish have received the nod for the Oscars with nine nominations this year. Hot on the heels of winning a Golden Globe and a Screen Actors Guild Award, Brie Larson has been nominated for an Oscar for her role in Room, as Best Actress in a Leading role.
Including Larson's nomination, Room has received four nominations in total, for Best Picture, for Best Adapted screenplay by Emma Donoghue, also the author of the book, and Lenny Abrahamson nominated for Best Director,
Saoirse Ronan was nominated for Best Actress in a Leading Role for her performance in Brooklyn, an adaptation of Colm Tóibín's novel of the same name. The film, directed by JOhn Crowley, also received nominations for Best Picture and Best Adapted Screenplay by Nick Hornby.
Kerryman Michael Fassbender was nominated for Best Actor in a Leading Role for his role in Steve Jobs. Also nominated was Stutterer for Best Live Action Short by Irish director Benjamin Cleary.
Another Irish actor who deserves a nod but has not have been nominated is Domhnall Gleeson. Four of the movies he has starred in are up for a chance to win an Oscar: Brooklyn, The Revenant, Ex Machina and Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
The Oscars will take place on the 28th of February. Fingers crossed there will be some Irish winners among them.
