Dubliner and famous actor Colin Farrell brings the streets of 1916 Dublin to life in this wonderful collaboration with Google's Cultural Institute.
The Dublin Rising 1916-2016 is an interactive walking tour which asks you to "Step back in time to the streets, events, and people who shaped history". The site was built in collaboration with Ireland 2016, the governments programme to commemorate the 1916 centenary.
The virtual tour allows you to virtually walk the streets of Dublin, exploring locations around the city that were significant in the events of the 1916 Rising.
Farrell's soft Dublin accent takes you on the tour, starting in Sackville street and then lets you navigate through 22 locations pertinent to the events of the time, including the GPO and Dublin Castle. Each location has additional material, such as images and witness statements which all together brings a vivid picture of Dublin a century ago to the viewer while also seeing what the locations look like today.
The beauty of this tour is that you can dip in and out of it at your own leisure, without having to hop on a plane to experience it. This tour definitely worth a look and .
