Irish rugby player Girvan Dempsey, comedian Karl Spain, Newstalk presenter Claire Byrne and 11 year old intrepid explorer Sean McSharry are just some of the many people from all across Ireland who will participate in Pick A Peak for children with arthritis this year.
Karl Spain explained that the peaks have been chosen to cater for all fitness levels. “I’ll be picking a peak near my home in Limerick for a picnic date up the mountains with my girlfriend… She’ll be impressed with my sense of romance.”
Meanwhile, rugby player Girvan Dempsey will be taking on a more significant challenge as he scales Djouce mountain in Wicklow, combining a good day out with some intensive training.
Participants can pick-a-peak to suit their fitness levels by contacting Arthritis Ireland on 01 6618188 or visiting www.arthritisireland.ie for a list of suggested peaks.
The easiest hill on offer is Howth Hill and the most challenging is the highest mountain in Ireland, Carrauntoohil.
For those who are interested in joining an existing group, Arthritis Ireland is holding a group walk, which will take place on Carrickgollogan, Co. Wicklow on the 11th July.
People interested in registering for Pick-a-Peak or joining the Arthritis Ireland group walk can contact Arthritis Ireland on 01 661 8188, go to www.arthritisireland.ie or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
