• 1 bottle dry red wine
• 1/2 cup brandy
• 1/2 cup Madeira
• 15 whole cloves
• 1/2 cup sugar
• 5 cinnamon sticks
• Grated zest of 1 orange
• Grated nutmeg for topping
In a large saucepan over medium heat, combine the all the ingredients except
the nutmeg. Bring to a boil, then reduce the heat to low and simmer for 5 minutes.
Remove from the heat and set aside to let the flavors infuse for up to 4 hours.
To serve, with a slotted spoon, remove the cloves and cinnamon sticks. Ladle
the mulled wine into mugs and sprinkle a little nutmeg on top. Serves 12
