For some of the most breathtaking scenery in Ireland, the Southwest part of the country is in a league all of its own. Combine the expansive bays and secluded beaches of Clare, Cork and Kerry with the rolling green hills and lakes of Tipperary and Killarney, and the dream has only just begun.
Whether you are picturing a Norman castle, a Gothic mansion or a luxury Five-star hotel for your wedding reception, you are sure to find something in the province of Munster to suit your taste. Here at WeddingsOnline.ie we've picked some of the most unique.
Adare Manor Hotel, Co. Limerick (Tel. 061-396566 or U.S.A. 1-800-462-3273) www.adaremanor.ie/hotel.aspl
Although a very popular venue with Irish and international brides, every wedding held in Adare Manor is singular, due to its olde-world style and eccentric history. An architectural masterpiece of Rapunzel-esque towers and turrets, the house was built as a private manor during the famine years. Now a hotel, with sixty-four bedrooms and twenty-five townhouses, the property is well equipped for a very large affair. And those guests coming from abroad, who might want to stay longer than the wedding, will find a plenty to do at Adare Manor. Once the perfect English-style manor town, Adare village itself is a cornucopia of good restaurants, B&Bs and heritage sites.
Glin Castle, Co. Limerick (Tel. 068-34112/34173) www.glincastle.com
For over 700 years, Glin Castle has been the FitzGerald family home and today the house is open as an exclusive guesthouse and restaurant. Renowned for its home-produced food and fresh fish from the lakes and grounds surrounding, this is where to come for the true Anglo-Irish wedding experience. Set in 500 acres of wood, and on the banks of the river Shannon, the house is surrounded by formal gardens and parkland - a wonderful setting for wedding photographs.
Dingle Skellig Hotel, Co. Kerry (Tel. 066-915-1144) www.dingleskellig.com
A modern hotel, right on the curve of the Dingle peninsula, the Skellig offers a complete wedding package, which includes a red carpet on arrival, a sherry reception and custom-designed menus and place settings. For comfort, ease and reliability of service, right on the edge of one of the most staggering parts of the world, this venue comes highly recommended.
Longueville House, Mallow, Co. Cork (Tel. 022-47156) www.longueville.com
Built in 1720, Longueville is listed as a Heritage House and is managed by the original family owners, the O'Callaghans. With its showcase fountains, Victorian conservatory and stylish Georgian interior, it is acclaimed by many. (Fodors Guide calls it an "outstanding country-house hotel") What might be of most interest is that the whole house can be rented to wedding parties to a maximum of 70 guests.
Annagh Lodge Country House, Co. Tipperary (Tel. 062-561-53) www.annaghlodge.com

Here's where you come for a quiet-celebration get-away by the shores of the Lough Derg. Boating, shooting and fishing enthusiasts will be in heaven, although it caters only for very small weddings, so check your numbers carefully.
Dromoland Castle, Co. Clare (Tel. 061-363-355) www.dromoland.ie
