Irish Pancakes on Shrove Tuesday
By Mairead Geary
Every Pancake or Shrove Tuesday, households around Ireland partake in this delicious celebration. It falls the day before Lent begins, 47 days before Easter Sunday. Traditionally, Lent is a time of abstinence so Pancake tuesday is a day when people indulge. The pancakes experienced by many an Irish childhood were large thin crepe like pancakes, not the small fat ones experiences in America. They were then sprinkled with sugar and a sqeeze of lemon and rolled up before being devoured.
