2007 IFTA awards

The 4th Irish Film and Television Awards, or Irish Oscars, were held on February 9 at the Royal Dublin Showgrounds in Dublin. Hosted by Irish TV personality Ryan Tubridy, an audience of 1,100 including Lara Flynn Boyle, Fionnula Flanagan, Gabriel Byrne, Stephen Rea and director Jim Sheridan, celebrated the best of Irish and international cinema.

Taking home the most IFTA gold were The Wind that Shakes the Barley, Breakfast on Pluto and Stardust. Ken Loach’s Irish Civil War drama Wind featured heavily and won Best Irish Film of the year. Director Neil Jordan won in the writing and directing categories for Breakfast on Pluto and the film’s star, Cillian Murphy, walked home with Best Irish Actor statuette.

Fionnula Flanagan, (pictured above), who made a recent guest appearance on the phenomenally popular ABC series Lost, won for Best Supporting Actress in Transamerica. Little Miss Sunshine, which stars Top 100 honoree Abigail Breslin, won the IFTA for Best International Film.
