Summer Rain in Ireland

"Isn't that a terrible day?" my neighbour said rushing past the front door.
Of course she was right; the rain had been coming down steadily since early morning. In fact the rain had been coming down steadily since early 2007.
The sky over Carlow hung suspended like a flat sheet of grey metal; the hills' edges blurred to a dark fuzzy green; their summits swallowed deep inside the soft underbelly of the onrushing clouds. I stood sheltered in my doorway and tried, as hard as I could, to remember, just remember, the feel of summer.

Another Goodbye to Someone I love

At 3:35 am today I had to say goodbye to my 12 year old, 4 1/2 pound Minn-Pinn named Neala. She died in my arms of kidney failure and I still feel numb from having hardly any sleep for the last two and a half days of taking her back and forth to the vets.
There was nothing else for them to do for her as of yesterday afternoon. So I brought her home to take her last breath in my arms.
