And So It Begins

The clock is ticking, the evites are going out as I write. Saturday, August 15th is the day and noon is the time. We are having simultaneous launches on several social networking sites. The paperbacks are done and the hardbacks will be done in 10 days. I am 5 days from book launch and things are getting crazy. I spent a day this week at a fundraiser for a library, autographing prerelease books at a high school. 10% of the cover price is being donated to their media center.

A very special Irish Nun

It started with my aunt who left Ireland as a young girl; wartime London her destination. But, as life likes to play tricks on the young and those with wander-some notions, the Gods cast the stones and soon she found herself in a new, never-imagined life in distant East Africa.
On rare visits to her 'old home' she would sit me down and gush words at a hundred miles an hour (as was her style), filling my head with pictures of Arab dhows raising sail on the Indian ocean. "How the waters gleam and sparkle," she would say, her physical presence beside me, her heart still beating beneath the equatorial sun. Or images of Masai warriors, "...the tallest men you've ever seen, with skins of shining coal. More handsome than...". She couldn't find the words which a child may easily comprehend.

Hibernian Benevolent Society of Atlanta
Founded in 1858 by a group of Atlanta merchants, the Hibernian Benevolent Society of Atlanta has approximately 130 members and promotes Irish culture in the Atlanta area. The Society sponsored the annual St. Patrick's Day Parade since 1858. The HBSA has also sponsored the annual Hibernian Black Tie Ball, the St. Patrick's Mass, the Father O'Reilly Memorial and numerous other activities.
Toronto Irish Association
This Irish society is designed primarily for recent Irish Immigrants / Expatriates living in and around the GTA (Greater Toronto Area).
NYC Wall Street Irish American Professionals
This group is sepcifically for networking and events for those in the NYC metro area who are irish expats or irish americans or anyone interested in Irish culture who work on Wall Street or in the financial services industry. We will have periodic events including cocktail parties, tailgates @ sporting events, ceilis, Feis events, and many other fun opportunities to meet and network with others. Maureen Maeve Shugart is the leader of this group in NY.
Seattle Irish Heritage Club
The Irish Heritage Club is a non-profit, non-political, non-religious organization that organizes and promotes activities of an Irish cultural nature in the Greater Seattle area, the State of Washington, USA. These activities include performances of Irish music, Irish dancing, Irish language, Irish history, Gaelic games, and cultural exchanges with our Sister City of Galway, Ireland. We also sponsor concerts, plays, lectures, movies, parties and other social events.

Pan Pacific Irish Dance Championships & Feis
The Pan Pacific Irish Dance Championships & Feis will be the first event of its kind in Hawaii, bringing together dancers from the United States, Canada, Mexico, Australia, New Zealand and Asia. The competition will be held at the Waikiki Shell, a beautiful outdoor venue in Queen Kapiolani Park at the base of picturesque Diamond Head, near the Honolulu Zoo and Aquarium, and located close to the hotels and amenities of Waikiki.

"Hungry"
"Hungry" has been invited to the New York International Fringe Festival. Adapted and written by Mississippi playwright, George Kehoe, Hungry was completed in 2007, and thanks to a Mississippi Arts Commission grant, produced by the O’Connor Theatre Project in March 2008, in Oxford, Mississippi. A mix of original writing and excerpts of Sands’ own writing, the script draws in part from Bobby Sands: Writings from Prison (Mercier Press, 1998), used with permission from the Bobby Sands Trust in Belfast (words of Bobby Sands© The Bobby Sands Trust).
