It is of course part of a much larger body of work but I hope it represents the wonder which I sensed in this unforgettable place on the shores of Kenya's Lake Nakuru. Francis, I whispered across the hillside. At least I think I whispered
On rare visits to her 'old home' she would sit me down and gush words at a hundred miles an hour (as was her style), filling my head with pictures of Arab dhows raising sail on the Indian ocean. "How the waters gleam and sparkle," she would say, her physical presence beside me, her heart still beating beneath the equatorial sun. Or images of Masai warriors, "...the tallest men you've ever seen, with skins of shining coal. More handsome than...". She couldn't find the words which a child may easily comprehend. more...
