More Keane Insights
January 16, 2008
by Cathal Dervan
SPEAKING of the vacant Irish job, you just have to hand it to Keano to put some perspective on another fine FAI mess.
Speaking to the media last Friday, 48 hours before an impressive 2-0 Sunderland win over Portsmouth it has to be said, Roy Keane was asked about the job hunt by one of several Irish journalists present at his weekly press conference.
“Hey, it’s the FAI. Watching this lot is better than watching Big Brother. You just don’t know what’s going to happen,” laughed Keane.
“It wouldn’t surprise me if it takes another three months. It’s saving money, isn’t it? Why would they appoint somebody if they’ve got no games? That’s madness. There’d be uproar. Delaney would be hung.
“Nothing surprises me with the FAI. They might approach me, you never know, they might get into a really bad situation. Who knows? It’s the FAI. I think they have a few lads on board trying to sort it out.
“Joking aside, I hope they get the right manager. They deserve it.”
Keane isn’t the only manager in England keeping an eye on the Irish job, and at least Oldham’s John Sheridan, who masterminded the recent FA Cup win over Everton, is prepared to be blunt with regards to his chances of landing the big one.
“I am nowhere near good enough to look at a job like that. I have lots to learn and first I have to prove myself at Oldham Athletic,” said Sheridan,
At least that’s one name the bookies won’t have to worry about so.
