NY GAA - Easy Win for Breffni Girls
May 8, 2008
By Eugene Kyne
Cavan 2-15 Rockland 1-6
IN the second ladies game of the day, the win went easily to Cavan with a scoring outburst in the first 10 minutes of 1-9 putting paid to any comeback by Rockland.
Such was the ease of the win that Cavan pulled the reins back and certainly helped their opponents for the rest of the half and indeed the game as they assured the young Rockland squad of an educational outing at the park instead of one that they would want to forget.
It was a day when the big names like Linda McKeon and Rosie O’Reilly should be commended for their play, and it will have helped the Rockland players learn which can only benefit in the future.
The contest will be remembered for the scoring flurry that Emma Clarke put on in the first 10 minutes, and also the excellent goal by Courtney Traynor.
Cavan: 1 Bridget Mulligan, 2 Katie Kilkenny, 3 Aisling Callery, 4 Caroline O’Brien, 5 Aimee Gomez, 6 Cathriona Smyth, 7 Roisin Clarke, 8 Linda McKeon, 9 Caitlin Hynes, 10 Rosie O’Reilly (0-2), 11 Marie O’Neill (1-3), 12 Katie McElroy, 13 Kelly McArdle (0-4), 14 Emma Clarke (1-6), 15 Colleen Froheffer.
Rockland: 1 Aisling Rowley, 2 Blaithin Loughran, 3 Majella Woods, 4 Kate O’Flynn, 5 Sarah Rowley, 6 Janet Morrissey, 7 Mary Ann Keane, 8 Lauren McCusker, 9 Shannagh Woods, 10 Courtney Traynor (1-2), 11 Siobhan Pearson, 12 Kim Carolan, 13 Jamie Mahoney, 14 Mary Ann Gormley (0-2), 15 Nadine Loughran (0-2).
Referee: Kieran Traynor (Armagh).
Player of the game: Emma Clarke (Cavan).
