August 21, 2008
By Cathal Dervan
CELTIC have parted company with Danish midfielder Thomas Gravesen after agreeing to settle up his Parkhead contract after manager Gordon Strachan said he had no future at the club.
A statement on the club’s official website read, “Celtic Football Club, Thomas Gravesen and Thomas’s representatives have agreed that he will part company with the club.
“Thomas wishes Celtic every success and, likewise, the club wishes Thomas all the very best for the future.”
Meanwhile, Birmingham striker James McFadden has ruled out a move to either Old Firm club, but Celtic have announced the signing of Cardiff defender Glenn Loovens on a four-year deal.
Celtic drew 1-1 at Dundee United on Sunday when Paul Hartley gave them a second-half lead before conceding a late equalizer to substitute Francisco Sandaza.
In other soccer news, Reading have made a bid for Cork City striker Dave Mooney as Aston Villa line up a move for Irish star Kevin Doyle. City are the latest eircom League club in trouble with talk of a receiver being appointed at Turner’s Cross.
The Kildare County squad have threatened strike action over nonpayment of wages, while Cobh Ramblers have asked their players to take out a loan to help secure the club’s future.
