NY GAA - Toms Advance to Final
May 8, 2008
By Eugene Kyne
Fr. Tom Burke’s 3-3 Wexford 1-8
AN all Boston semifinal contest in the second semifinal propelled Father Toms into the seven’s final after a close contest.
Wexford might feel that the let this game get away, and they would be right in thinking so. For long periods they had Fr. Toms on the back foot, but failed to get the necessary scores when they were dominating the game.
They raced out to a four point lead, but got caught napping when Trevor Kelly made the most of a rare Fr. Toms attack by beating a few defenders and firing home a goal. Kelly was to prove himself Fr. Tom’s main hurler and he also scored two more points in this half to keep his team just a point in arrears at the break
Seamus Moore gave Toms the lead at the start of the second half with a well taken goal, and it was a lead they would never relinquish. With keeper Dave Hession in top form and the backs in front of him also keeping wraps on their immediate opponent they never allowed Wexford any free space and limited them to just three points in this half, and so booked their place against Offaly in the final.
Fr. Toms: Davis Hession, Donal Moore, Seamus Moore, Ciaran Moore, Gerry Martyn, Derek McCabe, Martin Moore, Mike Moore, John Dowling, Trevor Kelly, Declan Cremin.
Wexford: Peter Nolan, Peter Ryan, Dominic McGill, Donal Redmond, JoJo O’Neill, Matt Brooks, Brian Dalton, Anthony Walsh, Paul McArdle, John Brett, Dave Power.
