ONCE upon a time, people here were fond of sneering at the obesity of American tourists, watching our grossly overweight cousins from the U.S. heaving themselves off their coaches in Dublin to watch the St. Patrick’s Day parade. Those shiny Kelly green jackets and plaid green pants are not the things to wear if you’re carrying a lot of extra pounds.
