George Best was to my generation growing up in Ireland in the 1960s what
Mickey Mantle or Joe Namath was to a similar generation of Americans. Indeed,
he was more.
While the Mantle and Namath influence begun and ended on the field of
sport, George Best was one of those rare individuals who transcended sport
and became an international icon in his own right.
