Who says Britain’s real royal couple, soccer star David Beckham
and his wife Victoria, late of the Spice Girls, are all style and no substance?
The Beckhams offered up some Christmas cheer for Joshua Clarke, a little
Co. Antrim boy, age three, in the form of a new power wheelchair, which
will help him cope so much better with the disease he’s living with,
spinal muscular dystrophy.
Besides going to parties and weddings, the Beckhams also oversee a children’s
charity in their name. The group was contacted after Joshua’s parents
were told that it would take up to a year for their son to receive a new
wheelchair from the National Health Service.
Once the charity received word of the family’s plight, Victoria’s
mother Jackie Adams personally called the Clarke family friend to deliver
the news that the required wheelchair would be delivered in time for the
holidays.
“Then out of the blue she received a telephone call from Victoria’s
mum Jackie, saying the charity would fund a wheelchair,” Joshua’s
mom Sarah told The Belfast Telegraph.
“We were just amazed when we heard the news. Joshua is a bit young
to understand but he has test-driven a few wheelchairs and knows he’s
getting one, which will help him get around.”
