Do Re Mi Pierce

By Debbie McGoldrick

PIERCE Brosnan is getting his pipes ready for a co-starring role alongside Meryl Streep in the film version of the gargantuan worldwide musical Mamma Mia, based on the timeless songs of Swedish supergroup ABBA.

Apparently, Pierce has quite a nice voice, and will hardly be a laughingstock when it comes time to play one of the three dads in the show.

“Earlier on in his career, Pierce actually had a quite good singing voice and performed on stage. He also sang in a film called ‘Evelyn’ a few years back, so he isn’t going to have to need major vocal training for the part. The critics could be in for quite a surprise when they hear him,” said a friend.

Brosnan, whose most recent starring role was in the post-U.S. Civil War drama Seraphim Falls, is all set to strut his stuff when filming starts later this year. Given the huge success of Mamma Mia in all corners of the globe, the film could well be more popular than anything he did during his James Bond days.

“I’m more excited about this project than anything I have done in some time. The opportunity to work with Meryl Streep is amazing,” he said in quotes published in the Daily Express in Britain.

Perhaps when Pierce is done with MM, he’ll return to the Wild West, a particularly favorite subject. “It’s always in the cards. There’s a bunch of us Irish fellows who keep saying we should get together and make a western myself, Gabriel Byrne, Colm Meaney and people like that. We’d just like to do an Irish film about the west,” he says.
