From Paris to Dublin

By Debbie McGoldrick

Porn star Paris Hilton breezed into Ireland last Friday to peddle her latest offense, a perfume called Heiress, and guess what? She’s Irish!

The famous for being infamous celeb and her permissive parents Rick and Kathy lapped up the Irish limelight like moths to a flame, with hundreds of Irish teenage girls freaking out at the sight of Paris at the BT2 store on Grafton Street in Dublin, where she appeared on Saturday to sign copies of her scent.

While in Dublin for two days last week she posed, preened, partied (at Renards and Lillies Bordello) and sold lots and lots of perfume, showing that she’s learned a lot since her homemade porn flick with a skanky ex-beau earned her the stardom she’s craved since her warped childhood.

It would have been funny to interview Paris about subjects like the Middle East, or even the Irish peace process – she didn’t even know who British PM Tony Blair was during a stop in the U.K. earlier this year – but the Irish press proceeded with caution when they were granted a few moments in her presence. They were warned by her handler – don’t ask about cruel gossip, and don’t bring up her stick figure ex-best bud Nicole Richie. So what else is there?

Oh yeah, her roots! Not those cleverly concealed by her hairdresser, but her Irish ones.

“What’s up Dublin?” she screamed at her fans. “It’s great to be here because I’m Irish so it’s so great.” The family tree stretches back four generations ago, according to Paris, who says one of her grannies, Dorothy Doogan, was a Dublin native.

“I feel so special. I just feel very happy right now. You guys are hot, so thank you,” she told the fans who weren’t given the honor of forking out close to $70 for her perfume.

What other words of wisdom did Paris have to offer? “Irish guys are hot. Colin Farrell is definitely hot and Cillian Murphy has the sexiest eyes. I’d like an Irish guy.” And she denied ever having dated Farrell – they went out once, she helpfully confided, “as friends.”

“This is my first time (in Ireland),” she said. “I heard that Dublin was one of the coolest cities in Ireland. It’s awesome. The reception’s been amazing. The people have been so nice. It’s very exciting.”

Actually, it’s pretty sad. Here’s one deluded fan on why she thinks Paris rules: “She is a real idol for girls. A lot of people don’t like her as they

think she is really cocky, but I like that she is confident to be herself,”

Katie McManus, 17, told the Irish Independent. Message to Katie’s mom – you really need to talk to your child about more positive role models!
