Geldofs Live Together

By Debbie McGoldrick

THEY say time heals all wounds, and that seems to be the case with Live Aid/Live 8 humanitarian Bob Geldof and his dad Bob Senior.

The elder, now 92, will be giving up his Dublin home to live full-time in London with his famous son, according to the Irish Daily Star. Mr. Geldof hasn’t been in the best of health, and Bob junior wants to keep a close eye on his pop.

“They’re best mates and Bob just enjoys having him around,” says a friend.

Father and son had their share of problems in the past, brought on by the untimely death of Bob’s mother, who passed away when she was 44 from a brain hemorrhage.

The loss, obviously, was huge, and the Geldofs coped in different ways. Mr. Geldof attended Mass daily, believing it would help better communicate with his late wife.

He also, according to Geldof’s autobiography, took out anger on his son.

“I could not believe he would do this,” Geldof wrote about a beating his dad meted out with a bamboo stick. “Then, at the end, the bastard tried to hug me. I was filled with disgust and I hated him. The hurt, the rage, the shame and the bewilderment were too deep.”

Now, the Geldofs couldn’t be closer, and Bob has received planning permission to add an extension onto his multi-million dollar home in Kent, just outside of London.

“Bob’s been looking to have his dad move over for a long time now,” said the friend. “His health is deteriorating and he wants him close by. And also he knows that he’ll keep a good eye on everything that is going on.”

There’s quite a lot of activity at casa Geldof, and not all of it good. The home has been robbed on more than one occasion, so Mr. Geldof will have to be on the lookout.
