Honor for Edge

By Debbie McGoldrick

BONO isn’t the only philanthropic minded member of U2. A couple of weeks ago we told you about an auction of U2 memorabilia that will take place in New York later this month to benefit Music Rising, a charity founded by The Edge to raise money for musicians who lost their instruments after Hurricane Katrina.

Now comes word that Edge will be one of the guests of honor at the annual dinner hosted by the Food Bank for New York City on Monday, April 23 at Abigail Kirsch’s Pier 60 at Chelsea Piers. Edge will be honored along with comedian Jimmy Fallon and some businesses for their commitment to hunger relief in the city.

According to U2’s website, the band are big supporters of the Food Bank, and have contributed public service announcements and donations to live auctions. Edge even designed a lunchbox that was auctioned for the cause, and pitched in some of his own cash by bidding on, and winning, a lunchbox offered by former President Bill Clinton, who incidentally is honorary chair for the dinner on the 23rd.

Sounds like a fun night is on offer, with dinner, an auction hosted by actors from The Sopranos and Heroes, and a champagne/dessert reception. Tickets are $500 each, and can be obtained by contacting 212-249-6188, or benefitoffice@foodbanknyc.org.
