‘Exhausted’ Farrell Checks Into Rehab

By Debbie McGoldrick

The party’s over for Colin Farrell, who is currently at an undisclosed location seeking treatment for a dependency on prescription pain medication.

His publicist Danica Smith made the announcement on Monday night, saying that Farrell first started taking the drug to treat a back injury, and hasn’t been able to get off them since. Farrell, Smith said, is also suffering from “exhaustion,” definitely no surprise there.

“No other comments (are) to be made at this time,” she added.

Well, maybe not from the Farrell camp, but surely the tabloids will get going on this one, big time. Farrell, given his hedonistic, devil-may-care lifestyle — the babes, the booze, the constant stream of parties — was always a prime candidate for burnout. Now he’s reached that point, and he’s not even 30 years old.

Career-wise it’s not the best of times for Farrell to become invisible; then again there never is a good time to own up to your demons. As we told you last week his new film The New World opens on Christmas Day, and he was expected to take part in press junkets this weekend to promote the project. Now those plans have been shelved.

Filming on Miami Vice, set to debut this summer, is just about complete, and when he comes out of rehab there will still be plenty of work on Colin’s plate, including a planned project with Irish director Neil Jordan.

Colin Farrell

One movie that Colin is hoping will never see the light of day is the private porn video he made with an ex-lover, former Playboy magazine Playmate Nicole Narain, who is attempting to make the sex-fest she shared with the Dublin hunk up for public viewing — at a profit, of course.

Hopefully when he kicks the pill habit, Colin will also find a way to choose his female companions more wisely. After all, he is a dad. James Farrell, 2, lives with his mom, another short-term fling, in LA.

More sad news for the Farrell family — Colin’s maternal grandmother Lil, aged 91, recently passed away at a nursing home in Dublin. Colin was unable to make it home for her funeral last Thursday, but his mother Rita had the event taped so he could view the Mass at a later time.

Lil’s husband James Monaghan died in January and Colin made it home for that tribute, giving a memorable eulogy.
