Man Dies After Subway Accident

By Georgina Brennan

A young Kildare man who had been in the U.S. only three months died last week following a fall onto subway tracks.

Vincent Coleman, 21, was found lying on the tracks below the E train platform in Times Square on December 6. According to paramedics, he had been lying for some time before he was spotted by a commuter at 5:30 a.m. He was rushed to an area hospital and placed on life support.

His parents traveled to New York where the young man had been working as an electrician to monitor his care, but doctors pronounced him dead last Monday.

Coleman, who was remembered by friends as a “lovely lad,” had only just celebrated the completion of a major job for his company, said friends who mourned his loss.

It’s unclear when Coleman fell, but officials believe it occurred within hours of the grisly discovery. He was wearing jeans and construction boots, officials said.

Very little information is available as yet, as investigations continue.

His family arranged a service last Wednesday at the Holy Cross Roman Catholic Church on 56th Avenue in Maspeth, Queens. His body has been flown to his native Leixlip for burial.
