| Status Quo at Officer Elections
By Eugene Kyne
At one of the quietest New York GAA meetings in recent memory, all but
the auditors of the county board were returned unopposed to their positions
for the New York GAA for the 2007 year.
Indeed the auditor election doesn’t throw anything dramatic into
the frame either as the three outgoing officers, Mark McAllister, Peter
McKiernan and Geraldine O’Brien, are all nominated, with Donegal
native Frank Molloy also running for the post.
Chairman Seamus Dooley returns for his third year at the helm since
he replaced Liam Bermingham who returned to Ireland. Kerry native John
Riordan is back as second in charge, vice chairman.
Paddy Gormley, who is a former vice chairman, returns to the inner circle
as the development officer as Ann Holland did not put her name forward
this year. All other positions are status quo.
The past year had some highs in the huge crowd that showed up for the
Connaught champion-ship encounter against Roscommon, and of course the
amazing win of the county hurlers against Derry and the resulting Ulster
final in Boston. Kerry and Sligo’s double wins at the senior level
and New Jersey/ Kilkenny’s repeat as county winners also stand out.
A lot of work in the days ahead, however, as the artificial turf goes
in at Gaelic Park and the serious undertaking of the fundraising involved
will entail.
