Bigger Isn’t Better for Camara
One of the funniest moments on Irish television all year came back in September as Johnny Giles tries to dissect Celtic’s rather deserved 3-1 hammering at home to Barcelona in their opening Group F fixture in the Champions League.
Even the most biased Celtic fan had to admit that their team was played off the Parkhead pitch on the night as Frank Rijkaard’s side played with the sort of poise that has taken the Spanish league by storm since then.
Gilesy had no problem with the result of the game, and certainly had no problem giving Ronaldinho and Co. the credit they deserved for their exhibition football.
Where he did have a problem was with the Celtic striker Henri Camara, the loan signing from Wolves who was supposed to fill the void left by Henrik Larsson’s move to Barcelona on a free transfer last summer.
Larsson, a second half substitute, scored that night but Camara looked more capable of tripping over the Swede’s laces than he did of filling his boots.
“The guy can’t kick the ball properly,” claimed Giles as RTE showed repeats of four or five clear-cut chances that were spurned by Camara’s lack of basic skills.
Camara couldn’t shoot to save his life that night, but he did manage to shoot himself in the foot the other day when he claimed he wants to move to a “bigger club” when his year long Celtic loan runs out in May.
Considering how badly he has played for Celtic since his move from England we can only hope that Camara believes in Father Christmas!
