Aisling Project will have them rolling in the aisles

By Elaine Sheridan

IN What promises to be a spectacular night of comedy some of Ireland’s most exciting talents are set to get together for charity.

The Aisling Project comedy night held in London’s Bloomsbury Theatre has become one of the most eagerly-anticipated nights in Britain featuring the best in Irish comedy talent.

And this year is no exception as the line-up promises to showcase some of the best new and established comedians together under one roof.

Irish Post Award winners Dara O’Briain and Ardal O’Hanlon are certain to have the audience in fits of laughter with their quick wit and humour.

And one of Ireland’s top female stand-up comedians, Deirdre O’Kane alongside Brendan Dempsey — the impressive comedian and actor who starred on stage in One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest in the West End — are also expected to have the audience rolling in the aisles.

These are only just a few of the confirmed acts likely to ensure that there won’t be a dry eye in the house.

Aisling patron and compere for the night is Ardal O’Hanlon.

Alex McDonnell from Aisling said: “Thanks to everyone for their support at last year’s great gig. We raised over £7,000 which took 25 of our guys on a week’s holiday back home.

“We’ve been doing this gig for 10 years now and it’s always a really successful night. We’re so pleased to have Dara back this year and also it’s a great chance for the less established acts to have their chance on stage. Also thanks to Ardal and the Comedy Café in Shoreditch who’ve come up with top-class acts every year. We’re really grateful.”

One reveller who attended the gig last year said: “It was a fantastic night and the line-up just couldn’t have been better.

“There were about 10 of us that went along and we laughed all night long. They were hilarious and Ed Byrne was fantastic as compere.

“It is also great to see so many Irish people supporting what is essentially a grass roots cause. I’ve already booked my tickets for this year and I’m really looking forward to it.”

The comedy night takes place on Saturday November 4 at The Bloomsbury Theatre, 15 Gordon Street, London WC1. Tickets are priced at £18/£15 and are available by telephoning: 020 7388 8822.
