From Daniel With Love
By Grainne McLoughlin
In this, Daniel’s
umpteenth album, is simply a collection of 20 great love songs.
Daniel can never go wrong with his fanbase and here he’s hit the
nail on the head yet again.
The Donegal crooner sings everything from Roses Are Red, Love Me Tender,
Wind Beneath My Wings, Wonderful Tonight to You Raise Me Up — words
every Daniel O’Donnell fan dreams of hearing from him.
There’s even the mandatory collaboration with Mary Duff in Secret
Love.
In the last couple of years Daniel has seen his popularity and profile
surge in merica and he’s the only artist to have had an album in
the British charts each and every one of the last 18 years. So he certainly
can’t be knocked.
But although it’s all the romance that a Valentine’s weekend
needs if you’re over 40 it’s nonetheless other people’s
work.
But I’ve no doubt nobody will mind that little fact and it’ll
sell like hotcakes nevertheless.
Here are some facts you may not know about Daniel:
He
has had six Top 20 albums in three years; he is the only artist to have
charted a new album every year from 1988-2005; he is one of Britain’s
Top 50 selling artists of the 21st century having sold more than 1,500,000
albums this millennium; he has reached the British chart with 24 albums
and spent more than 200 weeks in the British albums chart.
He reached No. 1 with two music videos in 2005 — Showtime and The
Rock ‘n’ Roll Show.

Innocent Run
By Donovan Welthorpe
Don Mescall has a fine
pedigree — having worked with Joe Cocker, LeAnn Rimes and Richie
Havens, to name but a few — and has a bit of a reputation as a songsmith
to boot.
The importance of this, however, depends on the listener having a taste
for Mr Mescall’s rather syrupy style.
Innocent Run is polished, melodic and tuneful but unfortunately remains
incredibly dull relying too heavily on mawkish sentimentality and overly-predictable
lyricism to hide what is basically a bunch of standard radio-friendly
tunes of the kind you can hear on most American MOR radio stations.
