Dream musical continues to thrill audiences

By Grainne McLoughlin

Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat

The longstanding musical success Joseph And The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat is set to transfer to Cork’s Opera House from Dublin’s Gaiety Theatre.

With rave reviews and several British tours behind them, the musical is set to delight its Cork audiences with its non-stop action and songs.

Designed by Irishman Sean Cavanagh, Joseph And The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat was originally written for a London school’s end of term concert but when it proved such a success Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice decided to add to it. Retelling the Biblical story of Joseph, his 11 brothers and the coat of many colours the show went on to become a West End hit and currently remains one of the world’s most successfully performed musicals. It’s now been running on the West End for nearly 12 years.

While the 2004 West End run continues Joseph takes its new production on the road again.

After the success of Joseph Webber and Rice went on to collaborate on musicals Jesus Christ Superstar and Evita.

Joseph And The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat is playing until February 25.
