Dublin will get its kicks from the flicks

It’s that time of year when Irish film lovers go crazy — Dublin’s International Film Festival.

The 10-day event will feature more than 100 flicks in cinemas all over the city.

Launching the festival is the premiere of Paul Mercier’s Studs starring Brendan Gleeson.

The football film will mark one of several themes over the festival including Irish cinema, soccer specials, documentaries and dramas.

Other films included in the festival are George Clooney’s Syriana, Johnny Was, starring Patrick Bergin and Vinnie Jones and The Ballad of Jack and Rose starring Daniel-Day Lewis.

Festival director Michael Dwyer said: “Of all the film festivals I have programmed, I have never been so satisfied as I am with the standard of the films secured for this year’s Jameson Dublin International Film Festival.”
