Ennis Festival 2006

This year’s Ennis Festival takes place between November 9-13 in almost every venue in the town of Ennis. It is a non-stop intensive programme of free events, day and night sessions with afternoon, evening and night-time concerts, recitals, singing, workshops, presentations and CD launches.

The festival is officially launched on Thursday November 9 by the spellbinding duo of Dundalk native Dónal O’Connor and Belfast-born piper John McSherry with their electric mix of fiddle and pipes.

Among the highlights this year is the Friday evening with the highly-acclaimed Mancunian flute and fiddle duo Mick McGoldrick and Dezi Donnelly accompanied by Waterford guitar player Timmy Murray providing an evening of vibrant music.

Saturday night will see the reunion of the Clare-based group Fisherstreet featuring John and Séamus McMahon, Dermot Lernihan, Noreen O’Donoughue, Frank Cullen and Maurice Coyle.

Líadan’s eagerly-awaited album will be released on Sunday. Their mesmerising singing and creative instrumental music has been captivating audiences throughout Ireland, Europe and America since the band’s formation in Spring 2004. Blending together their rich musical backgrounds these six talented young ladies create a fresh and exciting sound that explores both traditional and new material.

Téada featuring Oisín Mac Diarmada, Paul Finn, Damien Stenson, Sean McElwain and Tristan Rosentock will close the festival on Monday night with their creative and spontaneous approach to music.

Dancers will have their opportunity to step it out at the festival Céilí on Sunday afternoon with the ever-popular Four Courts Céilí Band.
