Full Irish Radio Show says let’s party

A village in the heart of Manchester’s creative corridor will celebrate its ninth annual community festival with a little help from local Irish talent.

The 2007 Levenshulme Community Festival, which starts on Saturday, October 20 and runs to Sunday, November 4, is expected to attract up to 10,000 people to some 130 events.

Over 500 performers will take part and Manchester City Council sports development team will run its special free children’s half-term sports week.

The official launch party on October 21 will be hosted by ALL FM 96.9 radio presenter Joe Casserly and the Full Irish Radio Show in St. Mary’s Parish centre to celebrate the area’s multi-cultural make-up.

Festival chairperson Tony Hennigan said “The festival is now one

of Europe’s biggest community

celebrations.

“As well as an arts programme involving art, comedy, dance, music, literacy and theatre, there are over 50 health and fitness events for adults and children.

“We want to see as many people out and about in the village joining in the festivities and getting to know their neighbours.”

Highlights include performances from Manchester School of Samba, traditional Irish bands Lyra Celtica and the Rossonerri, Irish dancing displays and Levenshulme’s very own Line Dancing troupe.

Other festival highlights include a three-day acoustic festival.

And BBC Radio Manchester’s Citizen Irish Night with Evelyn Grealy featuring Dezi Donnelly will be broadcast from the village on October 29.

Comedy highlights include the final of the Budweiser Legends of Laughter as part of the Manchester Comedy Festival.
