Galway welcomes back Trad On The Prom

TRAD On The Prom returns to the Salthill Hotel in Galway for its third successive season and continues on a weekly basis until the end of September.

True to its name the event is the best of Irish traditional live entertainment performed in the new conference centre of the Salthill Hotel located on the seafront promenade overlooking Galway Bay and the Clare Hills.

Losing none of its original energy and flair this year’s production will continue to enthrall the audience with world-class performances of Irish music, song and dance.

Star of the show is Galway’s Máirín Fahy who was an integral part of Riverdance for more than eight years.

Her fiddle playing has been lauded as amazing and unique and as the featured soloist in Riverdance she has performed to more than 25million people worldwide.

Máirín is a regular guest with The Chieftains and has toured Australia, Europe, New Zealand and America with the famous traditional Irish band.

She has also performed with The Chieftains and Art Garfunkel in Carnegie Hall and recently returned from another successful tour of America with them in the spring of 2007.

Máirín was born into a family and an area steeped in traditional music.

As early as the age of three she was dancing and playing and proceeded to win many All-Ireland titles.

Mairin’s grandfather Thomas Whyte was the founding member of the famous Ballinakill Céilí Band the first Irish band to record on the Irish Radio Station in 1929.

Máirín’s aunt Aggie Whyte was also a legendary fiddler.

Combining both musical generations her mother Bridie has joined Máirín playing fiddle on previous recordings.

As the featured soloist with Riverdance she was constantly lauded by audiences and critics alike.

Coupled with her fiddle-playing talents Máirín has a unique Irish voice and sings in both Gaelic and English.

The Trad On The Prom band comprises some of Ireland’s finest musicians and includes Chris Kelly on guitar, Yvonne Fahy on accordion and percussion and Brendan Hayes on keyboards.

Guest musicians include Gerard Fahy on uilleann pipes, Brian Morrissey on banjo, whistles and percussion, Phádraig Rynn on concertina and Kieran Munnelly on flute.

The Trad On The Prom dancers are lead by Cian Nolan.

Cian danced alongside Michael Flatley in Lord Of The Dance and then performed in the lead role for more than six years in the record-breaking show.

He is now living in Limerick and is in big demand for his master classes.
