Harpist Katie is crowned London Rose of Tralee

London student Katie Creane was celebrating this week after being crowned the London Rose of Tralee at a gala ceremony.

Scores of people turned up at the Crown Moran Hotel in Cricklewood to watch 11 beauties take to the stage in a bid to impress the judging panel and clinch the title.

Katie — whose mum and dad are both from Co. Kerry — wowed the judges with her bubbly personality and confident persona.

For her party piece she played the harp and sang a rendition of Steal Away.

The 21-year-old English student admitted she was stunned to be chosen.

Speaking after the event she said: “I just can’t believe it. I’ve dreamt of this day as a child but never thought I’d see it. I am totally shocked. All of the girls were very worthy contenders. I’m really looking forward to fulfiling my new role as London Rose and can’t wait for the trip to Kerry. My family are so proud of me.”

Katie takes over as the London Rose from last year’s winner Grainne Canny.

Organiser Sheila McCarthy said: “It must have been a really tough decision for the judges and I’m sure Katie will make a great ambassador for the London region. She’s certainly got what it takes.”

Joining Katie at the International Rose Festival in Tralee this August will be Birmingham Rose Aimee Louise Porch, along with Grace Kelly from Liverpool and Newcastle Rose Norette Kearney.
