Irish play has its London premiere  IRISH
playwright Mark O’Rowe’s critically-acclaimed play Crestfall
has received its London premiere.
The work has opened at Theatre503 and runs until December 15.
Originally produced by the Gate Theatre in Dublin, Crestfall was a controversial
success receiving plaudits from many critics.
The plot revolves around a day in the village of Crestfall.
A violent incident occurs and is related by three different women —
each bringing a different piece to the puzzle.
Each of the women — Olive the sex addict, Allison a mother with
a brain-damaged son and Tilly a drug-addicted prostitute form a bizarre
sisterhood — tell the story through their own viewpoint.
Mark O’Rowe is one of Ireland’s most successful modern playwrights
— having made his name at the Bush Theatre in 1999 with Howie The
Rookie.
He has also written screenplays for films such as Intermission starring
Colin Farrell and more recently Perrier’s Bounty which is currently
in production.
In addition to Crestfall and Howie The Rookie, his other theatre writing
credits include Anna’s Ankle, From Both Hips, The Aspidistra Code,
Kissaway and Made In China.
His most recent play was Terminus which was staged this summer in Dublin
starring Andrea Irvine.
Crestfall is directed by Róisín McBrinn who has worked as
resident associate director at the Donmar Warehouse assisting on Accidental
Death of an Anarchist, Caligula, Pacific Overtures and After Miss Julie.
