| Irish writer Marian honoured at the
British Book Awards IRISH
author Marian Keyes picked up the prize for popular fiction with her latest
novel Anybody Out There at last week’s British Book Awards.
Other winners at the ceremony included comedian Ricky Gervais who took
the award for Children’s Book-Of-The-Year for Flanimals Of The Deep
beating Irish author John Boyne and his book The Boy In The Striped Pyjamas.
Fellow comedian Peter Kay won Biography-Of-The-Year with his bestselling
memoir The Sound Of Laughter.
Thriller writer John Grisham picked up the Lifetime Achievement Award.
He said: “As a writer of popular fiction I do not pick up many awards.
I am very honoured.”
Scientist and academic Richard Dawkins was named Author-Of-The-Year while
Book-Of-The-Year went to Conn and Hal Iggulden’s The Dangerous Book
For Boys.
Ian Rankin won the Crime Thriller-Of-The-Year award for The Naming of
the Dead, while Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard’s autobiography
was named Sports Book-Of-The-Year.’
The Richard and Judy Best Read-Of-The-Year went to The Interpretation
of Murder by Jed Rubenfeld and Victoria Hislop won the Newcomer-Of-The-Year
award for The Island. |
