Kennedy piping festival

The kennedy piping festival commencing on November 15-19 in Armagh City celebrates the blind piper William Kennedy who was born near Banbridge in 1768.

There is a full range of workshops available in the following instruments: Uilleann pipes, Highland pipes, Border pipes, small pipes, Northumbrian pipes, fiddle, flute, concertina, bodhrán, banjo, guitar, bouzouki, Uilleann pipe reed making/maintenance, and flute maintenance.

Highlights are:

A Night of Highland Piping with The National Youth Pipe Band of Scotland; The Killeen Pipe Band; Dougie Pincock; Anna Murray; and members of the Armagh Pipers Club, 7.30pm, Thursday, November 16, venue: Armagh City Hotel. Tickets: £12/£9

World Piping Concert with Liam O’Flynn and the Pipers Call Band; Ensemble Shanbehzadeh (Iran); Michael McGoldrick with John Joe Kelly and Ed Boyd; and The Anxo Lorenzo Band (Galicia). 7.30pm, Friday, November 17, venue: Market Place Theatre. Tickets: £13/£10 or online at www.marketplacearmagh.com.

Armagh Pipers Club 40th Anniversary Concert with Lúnasa; Flook; Buille; The Armagh Rhymers; Jarlath Henderson; Tiarnán Ó Duinnchinn; Thomas Smith; Barry Kerr; Martin Meehan; Patricia Vallely; Fintan Vallely; and Tommy Sands as MC, 7.30pm, Saturday, November 18, venue: Market Place Theatre.
