Snow Patrol stole the show at last week’s Meteor Ireland Music
Awards at the Point Theatre in Dublin walking away with four awards: Best
Irish Band, Best Irish Album, Best Live Performance for their gig at Dublin’s
Marlay Park last year and Most Downloaded Track for Chasing Cars.
The group are in the running for a Brit award as well as receiving nominations
for the Choice Music Prize and a Grammy. Westlife were voted Best Irish
Pop Act; Director beat off competition from Duke Special, The Blizzards
and Boss Volenti to take the Best New Irish Act award while the Hope For
2007 honour was bestowed on Royseven.
Clannad were presented with the Lifetime Achievement award. The Best Irish
Male Award went to Damien Dempsey, with Luan Parle picking up the Best
Irish Female award.
Sharon Shannon won the Best Folk/Trad Award and Paul Brady, director of
the Belvedere Youth Club, was the recipient of the Humanitarian Award.
Justin Timberlake was named Best International Male with Lily Allen winning
the award for Best International Female.
Scissor Sisters won the award for Best International Group and the Arctic
Monkeys won the Best International Album Award for their debut Whatever
People Say I Am, That’s What I’m Not.
