Lulu bags herself a right royal honour

By Elaine Sheridan

Irish handbag designer Lulu Guinness received an OBE in London last week.

As she went up to collect her award she noticed the Queen’s own bag standing upright behind her on the chair.

Guinness, 43, said she would love to design a bag for the monarch.

She said: “It would be classic but with lots of little surprises like secret pockets to keep her going.”

Celebrity fans of Guinness’s bags — described as ranging from punk to posh — include Madonna and the Duchess of York.

For her special occasion she naturally carried one of her own designs — the Penelope, due out next year at a cost of £500.
