Sex Pistols frontman John Lydon has never been one to mince his words but in saying punk trio Green Day were just “silly fat kids” he may have crossed the line.

The second-generation Irishman has criticised Green Day saying they would never have survived when punk was at its height.

Lydon said: “They’re sticky tape on a duck’s a**e.

“They wouldn’t have survived the punk heyday. We had to earn the wings. We made it easy for them to come in and nick things from us. Silly fat kids.

“It was hard times we went through for them to come and nick our ideas.”
