McEvoy ensures Tradfest pre-launch is a success  LEVENSHULME
village in South Manchester was packed with Irish music fans and musicians
last week for the pre-launch of this year’s Manchester Irish Festival
Tradfest.
The legendary Irish singer-songwriter Eleanor McEvoy was joined by the
Tim Edey Band as they entertained a packed out m19 bar for the event.
The 10-day Tradfest features over 100 traditional and contemporary Irish
musicians, singers and dancers.
It starts on Friday, March 7 and continues through until Monday, March
17.
Eleanor first rocketed to prominence when her song became the theme and
title track for the largest-selling Irish album ever — A Woman’s
Heart.
And she brought the house down when she performed the track during the
gig.
Promoter James Hennigan said: “It was a great night.
‘Mike McGoldrick of both Clannad and Toss The Feathers fame had
helped set the gig up and it was the icing on the cake when he got up
for the encore.
“We are really looking forward to the festival and we have put together
a programme of great events that will hopefully please everyone.
“The Tim Edey Band make a fantastic combination along with Eleanor
and their mix of traditional Irish tunes with more contemporary influences
went down really well with the audience.
“The night gave everyone a real taste and flavour of what we are
trying to do during our Tradfest where we will be featuring both traditional
and contemporary Irish musicians who are keeping our Irish culture alive.” |
