Miss Scotland Nicola McLean sparked an international bust-up on the airwaves last week when she called Samantha Mumba a monkey.

McLean, 22, made the remarks during a conversation about possible new judges for the X Factor talent show while presenting the Breakfast Show on Radio Clyde.

After Sam, who is struggling to re-establish her music career, was described as attractive McLean said she thought she “looked like a monkey”.

The current Miss Scotland admitted the remark was foolish but maintained she is not a racist.

She said; “I am not a racist and I do not condone racist behaviour of any kind and wish to apologise to Samantha Mumba and Radio Clyde listeners personally.”
