Driving Songs
STUCK IN your car in traffic? Air con not working? Kids screaming in
the back? Well take time out and stick Driving Songs in your CD player
and rack up that feelgood factor.
Two Cds of arguably some of the best pop tunes ever to have been released
all brought together under the banner of music you’d like to listen
to in your car.
CD1 opens with the B52s’ Love Shack and follows up with the likes
of Fleetwood Mac, Billy Ocean, The Cardigans, Iggy Pop, Roxette, Billy
Idol, Boz Scaggs and Boston.
Not quite sure they all come under the guise of driving songs but nonetheless
there are one or two crackers in there that I defy you not to singalong
with.
Personal fave is Stealers Wheel’s Stuck In The Middle With You —
which I shall always associate with the movie Reservoir Dogs and Michael
Madsen dancing around with a razor in hand from now on — but it’still
a good tune.
CD2 carries on in much the same vein with golden oldies from the likes
of Bryan Ferry, Wilson Pickett, Gerry Rafferty, Chuck Berry and Marianne
Faithfull rubbing shoulders with modern contemporaries that include K
T Tunstall, Joss Stone, Robbie Williams, Corinne Bailey Rae, Lily Allen
and the infuriatingly catchy Daniel Powter.
Now where did I put my keys...

Fifties Legends
Another excellent double album which really digs up the memories of a
bygone era.
While this may well be a collection for those who are of ‘advanced
years’ there’s enough here that’s recognisable to a
younger generation.
The legend that is Elvis Presley will always be remembered and Jailhouse
Rock and All Shook Up are two great examples of his rock ‘n’
roll classics. Fats Domino’s Blueberry Hill is another timeless
classic as is Neil Sedaka’s Oh Carol and The Everly Brothers Wake
Up Little Susie.
And judging by the success of the recent movie release on Johnny Cash’s
life I Walk The Line has enjoyed a new lease of life.
CD1 features other greats such as Buddy Holly, Bill Haley, Martie Wilde,
Jerry Lee Lewis and The Coasters.
CD2 ably backs that up with offerings from Bobby Darin, Perry Como, Shirely
Bassey, Dean Martin, Cliff RIchard and Frank Sinatra.
Truly a collection aimed at the nostalgia boom but without doubt a worthy
addition to the genre.

Crush On You
DANIEL O’DONNELL is one of Ireland’s most popular ever singers
(bit of an understatement that) and I am sure he fully justifies that
status with his fans.
As an outsider I can’t quite see the attraction. Crush On You
is the forthcoming single release from his anticipated album and is at
best a lightweight pop tune.
All pleasant enough but nothing to write home about.

I Think She Likes Me
SHE might like you but I don’t. This is the latest offering from
the rising star of Irish Country music.
Upbeat it may be — even downright perky — but once again
the appeal is toa limited market.
Has been touted as the new Daniel and apparently does quite a fair impression
of him too.
